by Aadya Bommineni, Aradhna Praveen, and Shriya Shaji

This week, we spoke to Arunim Goyal, a youth artist who led a butterfly wind-chime workshop in his neighborhood, which was a huge hit across his community. He shared his passion for art, and left everyone with a beautiful keepsake to take home.

Q&A Section with Arunim

How did you come up with the idea for this workshop?

I came up with the idea of this workshop by looking at some of the stuff Deepti aunty did. She had Madhubani workshops with wooden art that inspired me to look for these wooden wind chimes that are easy to draw on.

What was your favorite part of this workshop?

“My favorite part of this workshop was teaching others and having them learn from my experiences. I liked teaching kids something new and watching them have fun.”

What are any takeaways you got from managing this workshop?

“A takeaway I had from managing this workshop was that it is important to be prepared. It was really helpful to have all the supplies ready beforehand and all set up so there weren't any problems or confusion.”

Do you have any advice for anyone else trying to plan a workshop?

“My advice would be just to stay prepared and see if you can find a kid that wants to help or volunteer. In my case, a kid from my neighborhood volunteered to help me and it made things go a lot better.”

Are there any interactions that stayed with you after the workshop?

“I remembered just how happy the kids were and how much fun they had and that was an important interaction that stayed with me while conducting this workshop.”
